Yellow Muscat: Muscats represent the most widespread grape varieties in the world, with over 200 individual varieties. Only some are suitable for wine production. The most widespread and popular variety is the yellow muscat, which the Romans called uva upiana – the grape that attracts bees. It is believed to have originated in Asia Minor, from where the Persians and Phoenicians spread it throughout the Mediterranean. Another assumption states that Noah took a yellow muscat vine with him on his ship and saved it from the biblical flood. Some texts tell that the yellow muscat was enjoyed by Egyptians, especially the Pharaohs. Some of this might very well be true. Emperors Charlemagne (742–814) and Frederick Barbarossa (1122–1190) also enjoyed the yellow muscat wine, and the variety is also mentioned in the famous Old German epic, Nibelungenlied. Yellow Muscat – Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains – is an interesting, quite a kingly variety that differs in flavour and aroma. The wine has a gold colour with shades of straw colour. It is aromatic, with a characteristic nutmeg bouquet, but it also expresses aromas of rose, vanilla, peach and always the freshness of a lemon.
